Does the Armstrong 303B-G Open Holed Flute Have a Solid Silver Head-joint?
I just bought this model flute used from an online music store and was wondering if anyone knew whether or not the head-joint was solid silver. It says on it “Sterling Silver Thin Wall” and the dealer says that it is solid, however my friend has a Germinhardt that is all over solid silver and the metal looks a lot lighter. Could this just be the different flutes? What is the difference between thin wall and just plain old solid silver? Also, does anyone know if tjhe lip plate is gold plated? Thanks! 
All silver parts must be stamped with identification – so if yours say so, it is silver. So is your friend’s. The color varies for many reasons. You can also spot a plated headjoint because the tenon – the part that fits into the flute barrel – is yellow in color. A silver head goes THUD when you hold it gently at the crown and tap the open end; a plated one RINGS. Thin wall is the manufacturer’s designation – could be 14 gauge, as opposed to 16 or 18. This speaks faster and brighter, with less resistance, but does not have the spectrum of tone color possibilities of a thicker wall.
Added – checked their website – that did not occur to YOU? – and yes, this model has a sterling head.
