I caught my son listening to heavy metal! What should I do?
I forbade my son from ever listening to the satanist band Slayer (which I have recently found out stands for Satan Laughs As You Eternally Rot) and instead told him to listen to Christian music because any music besides is basically promoting Satan and Satanic acts such as drugs, violence, sex before marriage, etc.
But today, I came home from work a bit early and heard a very loud, disgusting and awful noise coming from my son’s room. I walk in on him waving around like a maniac to Slayer’s awful music! I immediately turned off the music and told him he was grounded for one week and then he told me that Jesus isn’t real!
Is he possessed? I can’t think of any other reason why he would like listening to the devil’s music at such a loud volume! What should I do to convince him that listening to Slayer is not good and that purchasing their music is showing support for Satan and his evil legions?
He’s not taking drugs, not getting somebody pregnant, not quitting school, not taking a gun to school for revenge, and you’re worried about music?
The Beatles were once considered foolish by parents. Deal with it.
Teenagers are programmed to experiment a little with behaviors that their parents are not crazy about. It’s what gets them to think for themselves in preparation for leaving the house. If you want to control every aspect of their lives, when they do leave it will be without adequate preparation.
Whatever you do, remember to keep the communication channel open between you and your kid. It means a lot.
