Why do some people look down on Christian Metal (even Christians)?
There are many metalcore, death metal, unblack metal, hardcore, deathcore, and other metal-genre bands out there; yet, there are some people saying “they’re being untrue to ‘real’ metal.”
Why do they say this?
And to you “Christians” who look down on them: Why?
Quoting Impending Doom (from Silence the Oppressors): “We bring our light to a new realm, a realm you dare not enter,
passing judgment behind stone walls, behind your absence of understanding.”
Music is music; it’s not satanic; what makes music satanic, or anything else for that matter, is what message is behind the music; the message conveyed is what makes that music satanic, christian, funny, stupid, informative, etc.
So back to my question at hand: Why look down upon Christian metal?
I don’t have time to answer to all you closed-minded people. If you don’t have a mature answer, don’t answer, sheesh =/
I believe that metal has an influence on emotions. It may seem at first listen that it primarily markets to anger. However, it can also be used as a release from pent up energy and feelings that need to vent. Most christians, I assume, hear the screaming vocals and the eccentric guitar sound and immediately catagorize it as “evil” music. It’s a shame really to shun an artform without researching where it is coming from. Granted, there are several metal bands that are infatuated with the occult or demonic subcultures. But I am under the impression that they use it as a marketing tool.
some think christian metal disrespects metal music in general because it lacks anger. The emotion may be there but it is more akin to love. Love of some “creator” or love of one another. They don’t believe you can be bada$$ and rock about love. I don’t know many christian metal bands. But in my limited experience I believe most lack a musical soul. They are trying to be something they are not.
Bottom line: if you like the music, then don’t bother what I think about it. oR what anyone else says either.
